Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Richard Lyon has passed away at the age of 93 on Feb. 3. He was the first Navy SEAL to reach the rank of admiral in 1974.
Lyon had fought in the Second World War under the Navy Scouts and Raiders unit, the predecessor of the Navy SEAL.
It was during the Korean War that Lyon laid the foundation that will shape how the SEALs will fight in future battles. He and his team often operate behind enemy lines to blow up bridges and railways.
