According to the Vietnamese account, Hai Dang 05 was sailing past Subi Reef when a Chinese boat appeared to chase it away. Soon, two Chinese Coast Guard vessels, 35115 and 2305, joined in.
At 11:00 a.m. the landing ship Ten Thousands Goats Mountain (万羊山) arrived and fired flares towards Hai Dang 05. Meanwhile, the navigational radar aboard the Vietnamese vessel was jammed as well.
Thirty-minutes later, sailors on 995 exposed the 37 mm twin guns and some dressed in camouflaged gear took positions across the ship and pointed their assault rifles at Hai Dang 05.
The Captain of Hai Dang 05 quickly ordered the rest of the 31 crew members aboard to seek cover in their rooms and keep the doors locked.
The incident came to an end at 1:30 p.m. with the Chinese ships breaking away.
