Commandant of U.S. Marine Corps is leading candidate to be next chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff

Defense News says U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh and USPACOM commander Adm. Samuel Locklear have fallen behind in the selection process for the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Sources say Marine Corps commandant, Gen. Joseph Dunford, is favored to take over from Army Gen. Martin Dempsey.

Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, head of US Transportation Command, will most likely be the vice chairman.
