The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has successfully demonstrated swarming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of its Low-Cost UAV Swarming Technology (LOCUST) program.
A tube-based launcher that can send UAVs in rapid succession to overwhelm an adversary.
The small footprint of the launcher and the UAVs will enable the technology to be employed from ships, tactical vehicles, aircraft or other unmanned platforms.
Over a one month period, the Navy was able to get nine Coyote UAVs to synchronize amongst themselves and fly in formation.
